4 MI-17 of Slovak AF converted for SAR Role.

Slovak AF MI-17 0826 (Mai 15 2008) is one of the first to be converted to an MI-17 LPZS - SAR variant  for use in the SAR role. Based at Sliac.
 
 Slovak AF MI-17 0826 (Mai 15 2008) is one of the first to be converted to an MI-17 LPZS (Letecka patracia zachranna sluzba - Search and Rescue wing) variant for operation in the SAR role. These helicopters will be based at Sliac. Upgrade was undertaken by the Letecke Opravovne Trencin (LOTN) aircraft repair and manufacturing company in Trencin, Slovakia with the Czech Republic's CLS as prime contractor for system integration. Work included new VOR/ILS, DME, ADF, TACAN, GPS and IFF supplied by Rockwell Collins and BAE Systems, plus a nose mounted FLIR and TV camera unit from israel's Elbit systems. New weather radar, a powerful searchlight and moving map display are other elements of the modernization whilst a trengthened hoist now has a carrying capacity of 660lb (300 kg) instead of the previus 330lb (150kg). Two of the remaning helicopters are vurrently undergoing modification with LOTN at Trencin, with work on the fourth yet to start.
