First let's have a look at this rarely seen bird in our neighbourhood...

The Islander ! Here on patrol over the Maltese territory...

... and back to base on the platform and in it's hangar again.

Another type of aircraft in use is the Bulldog trainer

Also used for patrols along the coast ...

... here seen from out of the cockpit of an Alouettte III

Which brings us to this classic but proven type, used for search and rescue mainly.

Departing here from Luqa airbase, and working together with a coastguard ship

It's a shining beauty, in these colors for sure !
This helicopter is still in use in various countries, f.i. in the Swiss mountains.

For the 'Heavy Stuff' two Italian Huey's are detached on Malta

They do the long(er) range SAR tasks, Medevac and transports
Here one example in front of the Malta tower on military side

The AB-212's are flown by a combined Maltese / Italian crew...

... the characteristic rotorsound is unique to this machine.

Three pilots, Bell-G-47 ('last of the few') , Islander, and Loreto Spiteri (our host) in the Bulldog

Malta Airbase can handle it's own maintainance on different types.
