Hartenstein Oosterbeek , completely new-built and extended, reopened the doors at 20-09-2009
Hotel Hartenstein was HQ of the British Upper Commander General-Major R.E. Urquhart in 1944

Today you can call it a remarquable museum after the reconstructions that took place.

All items have their new place, and inside you cannot imagine, just like you walk in the battle field.

Hoisting of the Dutch, British and Polish flags...

And the openings ceremony of 'Hartenstein' and the 'Hartenstein Experience'.

Many officials and VIP's were present, already early in the day...
In the garden of Hartenstein 'Bands of Brass' played, here the Police orchestra.

Around the monument in Oosterbeek was a lot to be seen, parades of military, bands and material...
... and official a 'Guard of Honor' displayed an official memorial...

... the troops are marching in, I believe they have acutally been 'beamed up' out of 1944 !
Left... left... left two three four...

The Airborne Museum was founded in 1949 when the war wounds of Gelderland were still very fresh...

From the outset the museum has drawn an incredible amount of visitors...

The building is a 19th-century jewel, located in the historic park Hartenstein. Here the entrance...

And a small impression, without showing it all. True to nature showcases...

So many pictures, with explanatory texts...
September 1944 over ten thousand men fought - British and Polish airbornes - in Arnhem and surroundings

The Glenmoriston Pipe band from Suffolk UK gave acte de presence, made music and posed for the picture

Good mood for some, not knowing what the story would be after they jumped...

The last war years were about a mission to a foreign country where neither any road or hedge was known...

... the heavy battle was conducted in a civilian environment with all its consequences...

... the population was forced offhand to leave immediately their homes, and destruction was their part ...
... many men also died in a foreign country ...

... all this is to be seen, heard a,d felt in the hartenstein museum ...

... very realistic scenes have been created ...
... included all kinds of original equipment from both Allied and German sides...

... who ever is interested only a little should visit this museum to see many things you never saw before...

... give it a day of your vacation, free day, and also listen to the interactive comments in your language ...
Your last view inside the museum for now...
Better had been: 'Our morale was brotherhood, fueled by fellowship' it would have saved so many lives !
We close this page with Major General Urquhart in front of Hartenstein Oosterbeek, HQ of allied forces

General Montgomery, General Major von  Runstedt and Major General Sosabowski, some keyplayers.

So far, Dutch Aviation led you to the way !

One hurray for the coming veterans at very old age, 12th page !
Do not stop here, page 12 takes you to one more memorial summary you don't want to miss !
