ARRIVAL OF THE 'GLADIATORS'

For many spectators these images muct have been the absolute highlight of the NSS Top.
Arrival of the USAF 'Airforce One' in The Netherlands....
.....and seeing President Barack Obama walking down the stairs !

Only for this already the entire airspace was secured by the Dutch Airforce and locked completely
Also the same maximum security measures were taken for the other arriving VIP's. (all of them below)

MAXIMUM SECURITY ALL AROUND : POLICE !

For the NSS gathering the absolute maximum security measures were taken all around The Hague, like on the roads...
E... not only by regular traffic police but also by armoured (communication) vehicles...
.... motorized police...
... and also the AW-139 new police helicopters were to assist on various subjects
The AW-139 is a highly sophisticated helicopter with the latest avionics

Don't worry politicians, Dutch Defense is right behind you !

The Agusta Westland helicopters are based at 'Schiphol-Oost' (Amsterdam Airport)
Also the (for years) better known EC-135 helicopters were active
Almost everything official thet can fly was active in this mega-safety action

NMARECHAUSSEE: MILITARY POLICE

Special Forces...
The 'Koninklijke Marechaussee' (Royal Mil. Police) trained in several possible disturbances.....
..... or blocking all the roads that might lead someone near to the airport
.and next to the 'Marechaussee' the own safety commands of the USAF had their own extra 'eyes-in-the-sky'

THE RNLAF: ROYAL NETHERLANDS AIRFORCE

The evening before: Lt.Col. Groothuis from the DHC has it all in control. Ready, willing and able.
The same goes for the DHC Apaches, this time for real: Armed and extremely dangerous !
The Chinook helicopters also stand by, ready to transport every cargo needed or even casualties...
....as it goes for the more agile Cougar macjhines that are in service again.
'And here comes the cavalry', guarding the airspace over The Netherlands
The F-16 Fighting Falcons will warn and guide any aircraft that mistakes. QRA forces from Volkel and Leeuwarden.
.....with the only dofference pertaining to exercises: This time licensed to kill in emergency !
In the very early morning the Apaches are uncovered.....
.... prepared to start any neccessary action and off course observing the scene....
.... they're filled up with fuel anc checked...
.... and as the F-16's now armed for real to react on ant threat...
.... this is specialists work, you can't afford any failures now...
... but the job is done.
After all checks outside the machine the pilots arrive and do another own visual check...
.... after that it's time to move.
The complete scene is guided and guarded by NATO AWACS aircraft who have the overview who's where...

ROYAL NAVY / MARINES

.... and even who's there and should'nt be. Above: Good cooperation between Airforce and Navy.
The entire coastline is being 'occupied' by the Royal Navy, including the NH-90 now
Many exercises took place to respond quickly to any unforseen circumstance.
A lot of Naval vessels patrolling along the Dutch coastline in the Northsea
Large and smaller RHIB patrolboats......
.... arms loaded sharp...
....men and women searching the sea surface for any strange objects or ships...
...and might you have planned any action, even just small protest, these guys love to have conversation with you ;-)
Already many weeks before the special forces were training in raids on the beaches....
..... you cannot exclude any possible danger from sea-to-land.

SOME SPECIAL UNITS

Any terrorist idea must be prevented in executing, these guys will take care of that ! (just like in the movies...)
The unexpected could come from landside as well, so patrols and reconnaissance units were on alert.
How abou this fellow ? Real-live-camera's for any purpose, as finding explosives for instance.
A real 'Lap-Dog-on-cam' patrol.
...The Royal Army was present with many vehicles such as the CV-90 light-weight tank...

DGLC - GROUND TO AIR DEFENSE UNITS

Several 'Surface-to-air' installations were placed along the coast and inland...
Different systems such as the Norwegian 'NASAM' and Patriot
Most of them around the temporary made operational Naval airfield Valkenburg
Everyone was working with everyone, such as here Civil police and Navy (below)
