The
82nd USA Airborne Division come flying in to take the bridge !. Four
Blackhawk helicopters come in flying and landing on a recently harvested
field (as the picture shows.....)
The
82nd hurries up to the bridge and take it.
Allied
landings re-enacted by the 'Round Canopy Parachuting Team, here at
Dropzone 'Laverdonk' where heavy fights took place around the
the old mill in 1944. It shows nice how the paratroopers jump out of the
C-47 'Skytrain' better known as 'Dakota'.
The
veterans are grateful they can be here once more to see the spectacle,
where they survived but friends died...
Most
of the veterans were decorated many times for their part in
liberating Europe for our freedom even now.

men embarking gliders that were uncoupled over the battlefield to surprise

The
famous Baileybridge near 'Son' was built while the original bridge itself
was blown by the germans in 1944 in front of the Allies approaching. This
Baileybridge had to be built heavy enough to carry the heavy (Sherman)
tanks. This delayed the Allies significantly.
