PREPAREDNESS IN EUROPE AFTER FLIGHT MH17         

                                                           Voorbereid, maar tegen welke prijs en met welk doel ?
                                                           Prepared, but at what price and for what purpose ?

Prologue

Starting this analysis with Flight HM17 of Malaisian Airlines. It shows how frail peace can be. How cruel war can be. If any doubt existed whether the plane was accidentally shot down, then that doubt now disappeared the last few weeks as we look at how warring parties dealt with victims, their possessions, contempt for the dead, contempt for them left behind.  

Ukrain People living in peace in European environment which was their own choice to live in this freedom are now living suddenly in a ‘World of Warcraft’, exept that it is no game. An atmosphere of relaxation and closeness, respect, friendship and reunification that came to exist after the berlin Wall was fallen abruptly ended when Russia captured The Crimea, and invaded Ukrain. Death and ruination was deposited on Ukraine and fear and uncertainty reign now in many countries that were formerly under the Russian sphere of influence, as well as in the other Western countries.

The driving force behind this violence seems to be called Putin, his actions caused so many victims already now, war victims, civilians. On July 17th Boeing 777-200ER from Malaysia Airlines was hit by a deliberately fired fragmentation missile and crashed in the eastern Ukrainian village Grabove. No survivors. It was literal raining mutilated victims, families, men, women, children, all of them were in a good mood due to vacation or family visits, seconds before the impact of the so called ‘Grizzly’ missile. By exploding it’s fragmented content perforated the plane, ignitioning the fuel and destroying all systems in  a split second. Cold comfort can be found for victims family and friends that most probably the victims almost instantly lost consciousness by the impact at this altitude, not realizing what happened. 

if this war hadn’t started, all of them of MH17 would probably have landed safely without all these senseless victims.

LET US JUST STAND STILL IN MIND FOR A MOMENT FOR ALL THE VICTIMS OF THIS DISASTER AND THOSE THEY LEFT BEHIND

FIRST: BACK TO JUNE 17 - 2014
Flight MH17 of Malaysian Airways was shot down by a 'Grizzly' fragmentation missile, Putin and Porosjenko blaming eachother. Fact is that
Russia annexed Crimea Island and supported Russian Separatists in the East of Ukrain where the Boeing 777 was shot.

It is said that the people in the plane must have been unconscious the second of the impact. Let us hope so for their sake this is correct.
At the place of the disaster locals saw people 'rain down' out of the sky as by this man in his yard.

The victims bodies were transported by C-17 Globemasters airplanes to Eindhoven Airport in The Netherlands for identification
Many flights will follow now while finally (about two weeks later!!) specialized teams are allowed to enter the area and do their jobs
The Dutch King Willem Alexander and Queen Maxima, as well as Prime Minister Rutte paid their respect and compassion to those who died....
....while coffins with innocent people were transported to Hilversum for identification, which by the way will take months to do this very precise
The returning of the bodies happened with some kind of a military honour and ceremonials...
As much as possible this aftermath must contribute to the processing of this disaster for those who were left behind as well as the nation(s).
298 People including crew were on board of this plane (196 Dutch people). All 298 were killid in total. Victims were transported with honour.

The Australian C-17's came to Eindhoven Airbase to collect their dead, and bring them home after being identified
Eindhoven is capable to host the large and huge airplanes like the C-17
Off course standard maintainance has to go on
Seeing these Mega planes on the platform is quite impressing

Australia has five of these air-giants at it's disposal
The Globemaster was developed by the ever increasing heavy transport needs where vehicles are often heavier all the time
This modern  transport aircraft is often used for peacekeeping operations and humanitarian missions. Far over 250 fly worldwide now.
Most Western countries use the C-17 globemaster III, it's the most appropriate transport plane at the moment (technology, payload)

HOW PREPARED ARE WE IN CASE OF ESCALATION ?
An analysis of the EU forces as expansionism continues.  Putins unpredictability can lead to deployment of NATO. 
Totally unexpected we were confronted with a war in Ukrain. When time passes it becomes more and more abvious who pulls the strings.
Not just for now, but rather in the near future we must ask ourselves: What will happen, how far is Putin willing to go ?
 
NOTHING FOR NOTHING, EUROPEAN MILITARY STATUS AND THREATS.
       
How prepared and able are we in case of an attack by a foreign power ? - Hungarian Gripen and Norwegean F-16 above
        
French Mirage 2000 and Belgian F-16. These types  are in 'our' inventory. Both are not quite the 'latest gadgets'.....
        
Polish F-16 and a German Typhoon (Eurofighter) Poland will have extra EU F-16's soon to guide the Baltic area
 
         
There are a few varieties, but this is the Surface-to-Air system (SAM) 'Buk' (codename Grizzly) that shot down the MH17 flight
         
  President Putin and President Porosjenko blamed eachother for firing the deadly missile, truth gets more and more clear during time 
 
Putin (Russia) was always keen on showing the world it's military power. Again some 'Grizzly-launchers' above.
 

WHAT IS THE CURRENT STATUS OF RUSSIA ?
 
Finally we'll show you some images of the current conditions of the Russian inventory compared to some European facts 
EUROPE
        
The Netherlands sold their Leopard-II tanks in the 'detente' period. Only these lightweight CV-90's remain now.
        
The 24/7 QRA is done by some F-16's. Naval Patrol cannot be done by the P-3C Orions anymore, The Netherlands economized them.  
         
Many EU countries are able to do military insurgery actions, but do they have enough means and personell ?
 
RUSSIA
T-90MS Tagil with new armor, engine, new gun and turret and updated observation and aiming system. Best sold tank in the world. (App. 1750 Pc)
Russia has several types of submarines (also drive nuclear). The Russian Typhoon class submarine can carry ballistic missiles. 
Russia is notable interested in Sweden, a firm incident happened some years ago in the waters around Sweden wit Russian submarines.
Lets not forget: David versus Goliath: British warship 'Liverpool' escorts Russian carrier 'Admiral Kuznetsov' as it sails into the North Sea
Recently the Dutch didn't have anything to escort this Russian Flagship that 'simply sailed into the North Sea'. It was possible !
The Kuznetsov was appearently 'just waiting' for the responsetime of British most advanced destroyer. Why gather this kind of information ??? 
Russia has a wide range of fighterplanes, such as the Sukhoi types. The SU-27 shown above.
Talking about Sukhoi fighterplanes: The dangerous looking SU-35. cannot be underestimated !
This guy...is a problem. This Tupolev-22M3 is a redoubtable bomber 
This bomber can fly supersonic and is also used for reconnaissance activities
Recently this type of aircraft did a simulated attack on Sweden, near Stockholm. The reason can only be guessed.....
....but make no mistake ! This kind of actions have a reason. Intimidating ? Showing Flag ? Unashamedly judge a test attack ?
The West reduced its defence budgets, Russia increased arms spending by 4.8% in real terms last year almost 88 Bn $ (88 Milliard Euro) 
We won't know, exept for the fact that 'The Bear Is Loose' , and where will it lead to ? Why is Russia again interested in Sweden
Why the current new 'war-like' activities of Russia ? What can we expect if Russia is back on absolute strength in about the year 2020 ?
The bear is loose. This spy-plane is seen regularely again over Western Europe , guided in that case by QRA flights of NATO countries
Should we sit back, relax and keep on eroding our defenses, acting like ostriches ? 
These planes frames are outdated, still very modern avionics are on board !
 
Not seldom the arrival of planes is noticed, QRA is warned, and F-16's accompany the giant just in case he mistakes and flies to a city.....
In case the plane does not respond to radiocontact or even manual instructions, pilots are able and 'licensed to kill' . 
        
To avoid any of such misunderstandings, the 'Bears' will never be accompanied by their own fighters such as the various Sukhoi types.
Russia hardely ever visits European airshows, though they were present at Kazachstan in 2013.
Recently Russia announced the intention of buying Sukhoi 32/34 fighter-bombers...
.... these are the 'Capable Ones' , fighter-bombers, long range !
We have witnessed several exercises, in different countries......
..... and it appeared that Russian airplanes outranked several types of aircraft even in some cases the USAF F-15 and Eurofighter.
Most dangerous threat and questionmark is this Russian T-50 Pak-Fa, their own 'JSF' , also not to be remarqued by radar
The Pak-Fa is not yet completely industrialized but will fly soon on larger scale for sure !
The Russians proove that they also can build a stealth fifth generation fighter with this Sukhoi-50
It should be the Lightning-II's compeer, and who can tell if it isn't ?? Russia can afford it, so it seems. 
Many EU countries (such as the Dutch) hope that the Lightning-II will be operational soon without all 'teething' and will meet the expectations.
As we were told by Billy Flynn, Canadian testpilot of the JSF: It will !  Let's trust on that.
