PHOTOGRAPHIC IMPRESSION 6 OF AFGHANISTAN
N
Daily life means being alert, working hard but not without some fun every now and then

Logistics are important, Chinook helps. Light material, Apaches, food, it brings it all

The helicopters of the Dutch perform extremely well, concidering wind, sun and sand

In the plain open, the whole 'circus' has to be guarded and defended well

Coalition partners all use armoured cars for all kind of purposes

Holland purchased 10 'Aladin' radio controlled UAV's for reconnaisance

The 'Sperwer' gives more possibilities which will be clear.

Usually we have logo's badges, and more to cheer up our presentations. This occasion we cannot do so. Showing badges for instance can give the OMF an idea what units are acting in Afghanistan and where. This kind of information we cannot provide for the safety reasons.

A small view at 'TK', or Tarin Kowt camp where the day starts with shaving...

... new patrols to protect the PRT's (article) and observing possible OMF's...

... and checking over and over material such as the Apaches.

The Dutch use light vehicles inside the camps, but outside they're heavily armed.

Also all people who ask for medical help will be welcome, even.... Taliban, no distinction !

For Afghan people the 'fiets' (bicycle) is a strange thing, when you normally use the donkey

Uruzgan FM ! Radio in your own language, about your own work and next to that some music !

This is how a camp looks like, a small 'city' , but heavily guarded all around

Where deminers check for verge-bombs some 100 meters ahead a local tries to sell vegetables

The Burqua is still a threat, who can tell what is under it, a nice lady or dynamite-belt ??

Mr. Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, NATO chief visits Tarin Kowt to observe and talk to the soldiers

Plans, projects and logistics by computer... and in real. What a colorful convoy !

Deminers again, lot's of people get hurt by booby traps and loos their legs

This is also Afghanistan, winters can be freezing hell, also for Taliban

PRT teams (article) do their work, and children now go to school to learn reading and writing

A new bridge under construction, and under control of ISAF. Slow progress !

Dutch help locals to get back in their housesafter having checked if there are no booby-traps or hidden OMF in the qualaa's (farms). When life normalised, education can begin !
