4- JUST A 'GERMAN' DAY
A 'general' day, people tried to ignore the Germans as far as possible, that is if they didn't steal bikes or merchandise ....
Een 'gemiddelde' dag, mensen proberen de Duitsers zoveel mogelijk te negeren, tenminste als ze geen fietsen of koopwaar stelen...

De Duitse bevelhebber en zijn secretaresse staan voor hun 'in beslag genomen' Hoofdkwartier in de straat 
 
There is a certain aloofness, but still.... children do play in the streets
Er heerst een bepaalde gelatenheid maar toch.... spelen kinderen op straat
They play 'Old-Holland' games from that particular time....
Ze spelen Oud-Hollandse spelletjes uit die bepaalde tijd....
 
Many woman participate as well as re-enactor, playing a 'walk' or shopping, in animated conversation ....
Veel vrouwen nemen ook deel als re-enactor, ze beelden een wandeling uit, of boodschappen doen, in druk gesprek....
.... or just watching what it's all about in the street, one can feel some tension, it is as if something is about to happen.... (???) 
... of ze kijken wat er allemaal gebeurt in de straat, soms kun je de spanning voelen. Staat er soms iets te gebeuren... (???)
 And something will be happening soon.....  People start to walk away, the atmosphere is felt as 'not quite right'.....
En er zal weldra wat gebeuren...  Mensen beginnen de straat te mijden, de sfeer voelt niet helemaal goed...
 
The Germans start checking people in the streets, mainly on identity ('Ausweis Bitte !!' ) and asking what they do at the moment.
De Duitsers beginnen passanten te controleren, vooral op hun identiteit ('Ausweis Bitte !!' ) en vragen ze wat ze aan het doen zijn.
Some people choose to be friendly to the German occupiers, but if they really mean to be friendly....   (I guess not !) 
Sommigen kiezen er voor vriendelijk te zijn tegen de bezetter, maar of ze het echt menen.... (ik geloof het niet!)
There are rumours that the Allies might come or even be in the neighbourhood....  The Germans start to be a bit nervous.....
Er gaan geruchten dat de geallieerden in de buurt zouden kunnen zijn of komen... De Duitsers worden wat nerveus...
This is Martin, he's a man of the resistance, and has his tasks to be done if the allies arrive....
Dit is Martin, hij is bij de ondergrondse, hij moet zijn opdrachten vervullen  als de geallieerden arriveren....
 
He gives a sign to someone, somewhere.....    he's armed and get's the hell out of the street !
Hij geeft iemand ergens nog een aanwijzing...  hij is inmiddels gewapend en maakt zich uit de voeten !
Interrogation in the streets goes on, the Germans don't trust anybody anymore, and not without reason ;-))
De ondervragingen op straat gaan door, de Duitsers vertrouwen niemand meer en niet zonder reden  ;-))
Vigilance is a necessity....     /     Waakzaamheid is geboden....
.....and transport as well as weapons are within reach....     /     .....transport en wapens staan onder handbereik...
....a neighbour decides to take some clothes and leave to famliy elsewhere. She also expect 'trouble...'   It's just a feeling....though...
....een buurvrouw besluit om wat kleren mee te nemen en naar familie elders te gaan. Ze verwacht moelijkheden, 't is een gevoel, maar toch.....
The rumour says that it might give a fight in the area, better to get home or elsewhere....
Het gerucht gaat dat er gevochten zal worden in de buurt, beter om naar huis te gaan of ergens anders heen....
Even the General's car is near...     /     De Generaalsauto staat ook al klaar....
